wow there's actually accreditation for shodo? My husband also studied in Kansai Center also, I think it's the same place you studied, in Rinku Town? Anyway, just want to say that it's so great that you were so proactive as to find your own teacher!

That's right, they have Kyu and Dan grades just like in Karate and other Japanese Martial (and not so martial) Arts.
Yes, I studied at Kansai Center, Rinkuu Town! ^^ When did your husband visit the institute? ^^

I can see that you've studied in Kansai - where exactly? :) I lived in Nara for one year, but sadly, calligraphy classes where only an additional thing of my studies there.

I studided at the Japan Foundation Japanese Language Institute, its in Tajiri, South Osaka. It's just opposite the Kansai Airport.
Actually I've been to Nara too, loved Toudaiji and Nara Kouen.

To tell you the truth, callygraphy wasn't in our curriculum at all. But I had been practicing for five years at that time, so I absolutely wanted someone real to teach me, so I sought a calligraphy teacher in town (village? :D). I LOVED that place.

What did you study? Just Japanese?

Yes, I studied Japanese philology in Poland and went on a one year scholarship after my fourth year. I joined a calligraphy club on my university in Nara (奈良教育大学) and it was great, there were mostly people from calligraphy studies in this club (who studied generally to teach calligraphy to others, since it was a pedagogical university). あ~、懐かしくなってきた... ;) I wish I could have a real teacher again! You did a great thing to find a teacher on your own :)

Örülök, hogy visszajöttél, még lehet, hogy engem is érdekelne kalligráfia :3

Do you do commissions? I have a comicbook called ICHIDO coming out in a few months and have been looking for someone to help me write the title in Japanese script. If you are interested I can further explain the name ICHIDO as I think it is incorrect grammar. It is a sci-fi/jidai-geki tale set in Japan of the far future where a fallen hero struggles to find redemption across an empire of ruin.

Sure! Tell me, and we'll agree upon something. ;)
I'm interested!
